It's been a while since I read this but I still remember my enjoyment of the first half and then my continuing irritation with where it went in the second half and the end. I just couldn't look back on the part that I'd enjoyed because I was so incredibly annoyed with the ending - in fact it was even more disappointing because I had liked the retelling so very much at the start. Still look back on the book with feelings of "rawr," and have stayed away from future Maguire work just because of this. Which may be my loss, but once you've had a "want to toss book across the room" moment it tends dictate your future buying habits.
